Ahead of Jersey City event to tout record-low homicides in 2024, councilman urges police to release timely crime stats

Citing what his constituents say is a rise in crimes like package thefts, car break-ins and shoplifting, Councilman Rich Boggiano is urging Jersey City to release detailed, neighborhood crime statistics on a weekly basis.
“My neighbors in Jersey City have expressed growing concerns about rising crime … (and) believe crime levels are worse than in previous years,” Boggiano, a retired Jersey City police detective, said in an op-ed piece.
